The City of Bremerton/Bremerton Central Lions Club is offering the opportunity for three students to spend a month this summer (tentatively July 20 to August 20) in our Sister City, Kure, Japan as an exchange student. Each student will live with a Japanese family while they are in Kure. As representatives of the City of Bremerton, they will attend some official functions hosted by Kure City officials. The Bremerton Central Lions Club will pay one half of the airfare for each student, and the student will be responsible for the other half. It is estimated the student’s share of the airfare will be approximately $1,000. In selecting the students, the selection committee will be guided by the impression they believe an applicant will make on the Japanese people. There are no specific academic requirements. This program is available to students in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades who attend Bremerton High, Olympic High, Central Kitsap High, Klahowya Secondary School or are homeschooled in the Bremerton or Central Kitsap School Districts. Application forms may be obtained from the school Career Center/Counseling or from the Mayor's office at City Hall located on the 6th floor of the Norm Dicks Government Center, 345 6th Street, Bremerton or on the City's website.
Applications must be submitted to the Mayor’s office no later than 5 PM, Thursday, April 13, 2017. The interviews will be held approximately two weeks later. All students who apply will be interviewed. Please call Elaine Valencia, Sister City Coordinator, at 360-473-5266 if you have any questions.
